CCTV obtained by 9NEWS showcased diners seated at Zbar in Collaroy when the Mazda sedan smashed through the glass shop front.
Piping hot steam from a coffee machine was sent shooting into the air, as a passer-by dashed to the driver’s side and took the keys out of the ignition.
Customers Kevin and Elizabeth said they very first thought the noisy bang from the crash was “a bomb.”
“It was truly horrifying,” Elizabeth told 9NEWS.
Staff and diners narrowly dodged injury as the sedan slammed through the cafe. (9NEWS)
A teenage cafe worker was cleaning the shop front just a minute before the crash. (9NEWS)
Just a minute earlier before the incident unfolded, 14-year-old Indika had been cleaning the shop’s front windows.
Zbar proprietor Richard Godden said it was “fortunate no-one was hurt.”

“We were truly busy… the shop was utter with everyone here for brekkie on Sunday morning,” Mr Godden said.
The driver of the Mazda was a 90-year-old man, who needed a walking stick as he was helped into a waiting ambulance.
He was treated for shock, while his female passenger was uninjured.

“It happened to the bottle shop about three years ago, same thing, and now it's happened this morning to us,” he said.
Locals told 9NEWS there is a strong need to install bollards on the popular shopping unwrap.
